son of Thomas Lloyd, attorney at law at Wrexham, of the family of Plas Madog, Llanfair Talhaearn, Denbighshire; the mother was a Myddelton. On 25 February 1688/9, 'aged 15,' he matriculated from Jesus College, Oxford (B.A. 1692, M.A. 1695); he took orders, served as curate in the Wrexham district, was tutor at Chirk castle, and became chaplain to Mary Myddelton of Croesnewydd, who bequeathed Plas Power to him - he did not live to inherit it, but was living there at the time of his death in 1734; he was buried 22 October at Wrexham. Some of his books and manuscripts are now in the N.L.W. (see N.L.W. Handlist, items 716-21). The library also has his interleaved and annotated copy of John Davies's Dictionarium Duplex, crammed with additional words and citations; this has proved invaluable in the compilation of the Welsh Dictionary which the University of Wales has in progress.
