PARRY , MORRIS ( fl. 1661-1683 ), cleric and bard .

Little is known of his early life. He was appointed rector of Llanelian in the county of Denbigh and diocese of S. Asaph , 11 March 1660/1 , and served that parish for nearly twenty-three years. He was one of the poets of the second half of the 17th cent. who continued to sing in the old tradition of praising the aristocratic families. Examples of his poems can be seen in Mostyn MSS. 96 and 161 , Wynnstay MS. 6 , N.L.W. MS. 11993 , and B.M. Add. MSS. 14891, 14892, 14975, and 14994 . An elegy composed on his death by Siôn Dafydd of Penllyn is found in Mostyn MS. 96 . He appears to have been the possessor of a manuscript copy of Sir John Wynn of Gwydir 's work, ‘ The History of the Gwydir Family ,’ about 1674 . He was buried at Llanelian , 26 Sept. 1683 .
