Born at Carmarthen, 15 December 1854, the eldest son of Francis Green, Oaklands, and his wife, Elizabeth (née Harries) of Tre-facwn near Trefin. He was educated at a Moravian school at Pendine, the chapter school at St. David's, and Shrewsbury School. After studying law in London, and working in his father's office, he emigrated to Canada in 1878 where he was engaged in farming until he returned to London to work in the office of The Financial Times. He returned to St. David's in 1907 and spent the remainder of his long life in antiquarian research in which he acquired a great reputation. He edited the West Wales Historical Records, and calendared The Coleman Deeds (1921), The Crosswood Deeds (1927) and The Hawarden Deeds (1931) in the National Library of Wales, but his calendar of the Peniarth Deeds remains unpublished. He contributed important papers on the history of Pembrokeshire in Y Cymmrodor and the Trans. Cymmr. Many of his manuscripts are preserved in the county library at Haverfordwest and there are copies in the National Library. He died 6 August 1942, at St. David's.
