JONES , MEIRION ( 1907 - 1970 ), educationist ;

b. at Llithfaen, Caerns. , 30 July 1907 , the son of Robert Owen Jones and Annie Jones . He attended Llithfaen primary school , Pwllheli grammar school , and Bangor Normal College , and served as a teacher at Corris primary school ( 1929-30 ), Blaenau Ffestiniog central school ( 1930-39 ), headmaster of Llandrillo primary school ( 1939-45 ), headmaster of Dyffryn Ardudwy primary school ( 1945-50 ), headmaster of Bala primary school ( 1950-70 ). In 1938 he married Jane , the daughter of Owen and Catherine Griffith , Derlwyn , Pwllheli . They had two daughters. In 1965 he received the M.B.E. for his services to education in Wales . He was one of the seven founder members of the Schools Council Welsh Committee . He was made a Druid at the Barry national eisteddfod 1968 for his service to Welsh culture. He was a member of the Council of Urdd Gobaith Cymru , and the Secretary of the Urdd National Eisteddfod at Blaenau Ffestiniog , 1936 and also at Bala 1954 . He was Secretary of the Urdd Committee in Merioneth for many years. He was Honorary Secretary of the national eisteddfod of Wales at Bala , 1967 and Secretary of the committee responsible for the Welsh comic Hwyl for 20 years ( 1950-70 ). He was the author of two books, Elizabeth Davies , published by University of Wales Press ( 1960 ), and a volume for children, Am Hwyl published by Gwasg Gee in 1967 . As the Secretary of Penllyn Historical Society he was the instigator of memorials to Michael D. Jones ( DWB , 495-6) and John Puleston Jones ( DWB , 487-8) . He was an elder of the Presbyterian Church of Wales for 27 years, and secretary of Capel Tegid , Bala . The imposing list of secretaryships indicates his outstanding skill as an able organizer . He died at his home, Llwynhudol , Bala , 11 March 1970 .
