MORGAN , JOHN JAMES ( 1870 - 1954 ), minister (Presb.) and author ;

b. March 1870 at Glynberws , Ysbyty Ystwyth, Cards. , son of David Morgan (‘ Y Diwygiwr ’; 1814 - 1883 ; DWB , 641) and Jane his wife. He was educated at Ysbyty Ystwyth board school , Ystradmeurig school , Thomas Owens's school , Aberystwyth and Trefeca College . He was ord. in 1894 , and served his ministry at Cowbridge, Glam. ( 1893-95 ), and Mold, Flints. ( 1895-1946 ). In 1895 he m. Jeanetta Thomas , Llancatal , Vale of Glamorgan . After retiring he went to live with his daughter in Irby , Cheshire , where he d. 23 Jan. 1954 .

All his life he enjoyed writing , and his work, mostly historical, appeared in the periodicals of his denomination. He had a gift for recording the striking and pithy sayings and idiosyncracies of elders and preachers. He published several very useful biographies: Hanes Dafydd Morgan a Diwygiad '59 ( 1906 ); Cofiant Edward Matthews ( 1922 ); Cofiant Evan Phillips ( 1930 ); and Hanes Daniel Owen ( 1936 ). At the end of his life he published his autobiography and reminiscences in three interesting volumes ( 1948 , 1949 and 1953 ), under the title A welais ac a glywais .
