PEARCE , EVAN WILLIAM ( 1870 - 1957 ), minister (Presb.), and author ;

b. 2 Oct. 1870 at Llantwit Fardre, Glam. , but the family moved to Pontycymer , where he began to preach in Bethel chapel in 1891 . He went to Trefeca College on 14 Sept. 1892 , remaining there for four years, and was ord. in 1897 . He became minister in Broughton, Glam. , but retired to look after a relative in Pontarddulais in 1902 . Shortly afterwards he went to Bethel , Porthcawl , where he was minister for 25 yrs., retiring in 1927 . He served as Moderator and secretary of East Glamorgan presbytery . On 31 March 1898 he m. Rachel James in Swansea and they had a daughter. He lived most of his life in Gorlan , Green Avenue , Porthcawl , and d. 30 Aug. 1957 .

He took a great interest in local history and in the history of his own denomination , and was one of the first members of the Calvinistic Methodist Historical Soc. He wrote for the Western Mail and published Beulah, Margam, 1838-1938, a historical hsketc ( 1938 ), and a biography, The Rt. Hon. George Swan Nottage, Lord Mayor of London, 1884-5 ( 1938 ).
