PROSSER , DAVID LEWIS ( 1868 - 1950 ), archbishop ;

b. 10 June 1868 , s. of David Prosser of Tŷ Gwyn , Llangynnor, Carms. and Elizabeth , his wife. He was educated at Llandovery College and Keble College , Oxford , where he graduated with a third-class honours degree in history; he took his B.A. in 1891 and his M.A. in 1895 . He was ord. deacon , 18 Dec. 1892 , by Bishop Basil Jones of St. David's and licensed to the curacy of Holy Trinity church at Aberystwyth . He had his priest's orders from John Lloyd , suffragan Bishop of Swansea , 21 Dec. 1893 . In 1896 , he became curate of Christ Church , Swansea , where he remained until 1909 , when he became vicar of Pembroke Dock . He was appointed Archdeacon of St. David's in 1920 and was consecrated Bishop of St. David's in succession to John Owen ( DWB , 714-5) 2 Feb. 1927 . In 1944 , he was elected Archbishop of Wales to succeed C.A.H. Green (see above) . He resigned the archbishopric in 1949 . He d. 28 Feb. 1950 , at Abergwili , where he was buried.

He wrote some devotional pamphlets, and was awarded the degree of LL.D. honoris causa by the University of Wales in 1949 .
