PRYCE , FREDERICK NORMAN ( 1888 - 1953 ), museum curator ;

b. 19 Aug. 1888 in Welshpool, Mont. , the s. of T.W. Pryce and his wife. Following his education at the local grammar school he entered the University College of Wales , Aberystwyth , where he graduated with a first class in Latin in 1908 and similarly in Greek in 1909 . He was appointed to the staff of the British Museum in 1911 , promoted Assistant Keeper in 1934 and Keeper of Greek and Roman Antiquities 1936-39 . He served in the Middle East in World War I (and was mentioned in dispatches twice) and in intelligence in World War II . He was the editor of the Journal of Hellenic Studies , 1924-38 , and the author of numerous papers on history and archaeology and of standard catalogues of classical antiquities.

He m. Ruby Sewell in 1925 and he d. at his home, 31 Erw Wen , Welshpool , 14 Oct. 1953 .
