Born at Penyclawdd, Monmouthshire. He was trained as an engineer, and gained considerable fame in his profession. Among the designs with which he was involved were the Ellesmere Canal, the Caledonian Canal, deepening the river Clyde, and dredging Lough Neagh. He died in Northampton, 1836.
