IEUAN LLWYD SIEFFRAI ( 1575 - 1639

instead of fl. c. 1599-1619 ; DWB , 413). B. in 1575 , s. and heir of Sieffrai ab Ieuan Llwyd , Dyffryn Ereithlyn , Eglwys-bach, Denbs. , of the Lloyd family of Hafod Unnos (see John Lloyd ( 1749 - 1815 ; DWB , 583 ). On 12 July 1591 , at Llandrillo church, Mer. , when he was 16 years old and she only 11, he m. Margred , d. and sole heiress of Morus ap Siôn ab Elis of Palau . They had ten daughters and two sons, some born at Palau and others at Dyffryn . The eldest s., Sieffrai Llwyd ( 1607 - 1626 ), was murdered at Dôl — y — cletwr , Rhiwedog , and the inheritance descended through the second son, Morus (b. 1619 ). Ieuan Llwyd Sieffrai , antiquary , genealogist and poet , was one of the literary gentry . He d. 8 July 1639 , and was buried in Llandderfel cemetery.

Corrections and additions:

IEUAN LLWYD SIEFFRAI ( fl. c. 1599-1619 ), poet ,

a native apparently of North Wales . A number of his poems are preserved in manuscript, and these include elegies to captain John Salusbury of Rhûg ( see the article on that family ), which asserts a close relationship between himself and the poet , englynion of praise to Pirs Griffith (q.v.) of Penrhyn , others welcoming Richard Hughes to Penllyn , a cywydd of thanks to Robert Vaughan of Llwydiarth ( see article on that family ) for welcoming the poet to his home, another begging a sword from Maredudd ap Huw Lewys for Foulkes Holland , and a few poems in free metre.
