JONES , EDWARD ( 1790 - 1860 ), minister (Presb.) ;

b. 11 Sept. 1790 , son of Edward Jones , Rhiwlas , in the parish of Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn, Cards. , and Mary his wife. He was taught to be a saddler , and at the age of 20 he went to London , where he heard John Elias ( DWB , 203-4) preach , and thence to Bristol . He returned to his native district and began to preach with the Calvinistic Methodists ; he was ordained to the ministry in 1829 . He excelled not so much as a preacher but as an educator and an expert on the property, constitution and discipline of his Connexion . He m. Mary , dau. of David Davies , Machynlleth , and sister of Robert Davies ( 1790 - 1841 ; DWB , 150) . He d. 29 Aug. 1860 , and was the first to be interred in Aberystwyth town cemetery.
